Mr. John G. Renfroe is the Assistant Director of Bands at Roswell High School in Fulton County, GA.  Prior to his appointment at Roswell, he was the Director of Bands for eight years at Sweetwater Middle School, where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2018.  Bands under his direction have received eighteen Superior and two Excellent ratings at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluations. An honors graduate of Lovejoy High School in Lovejoy, Georgia, Mr. Renfroe received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia, his Master’s Degree in Music Education from Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA, and is currently in the Specialist Program of Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University. His professional teaching career began in Stockbridge, GA at Austin Road Middle School where the bands under his leadership grew from approximately 80 students to over 250 students in three years, consisting of approximately 40% of the school’s student body participating in the band program, numerous students accepted to participate in the University of Georgia’s Middle School Band Festival, had multiple students selected for county and district honor bands, and the “Super Symphonic Saturday” Band Clinic, which was featured in the Henry Herald local newspaper.  Mr. Renfroe has served as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator in secondary schools and GMEA Districts throughout the State. His bands have performed at the 2017 Holiday Celebration at the Georgia Governor’s Mansion, in the DeKalb County Schools Pre-Festival Workshop as the Guest Band by Invitation in 2012, and the Six Flags Over Georgia Performing Arts Consultants in 2011 where they received the Gold Rating.  As a performing artist, Mr. Renfroe has held positions in the Georgia Wind Symphony, Tara Winds Community Band,  the principal saxophonist with the University of Georgia Wind Symphony, University of Georgia Men’s Glee Club, the University of Georgia African-American Choral Ensemble, the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band, the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble, and is a current member and saxophonist in the North Georgia Wind Symphony.  Mr. Renfroe has served as a clinic session host, presider, and presenter at the annual Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference, and additionally serves as a motivational speaker at schools and churches across the state. His professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), National Band Association (NBA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), Tri-M Honor Music Society Honorary Lifetime Member, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).
