Mr. Joshua Roberts is the Director of Bands at Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia. The band program at Roswell consists of a competitive marching band, three concert bands, a jazz band, Winter Guard, Indoor Drumline, and other small chamber groups. The bands at Roswell consistently receive superior ratings at competitions and performance evaluations.
Prior to his appointment at Roswell High School, Mr. Roberts was the Director for Bands at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. The bands of Whitewater consistently received superior ratings and the marching band won several Grand Championships under Mr. Roberts’ leadership. In 2020, the Whitewater Band toured France and performed in Normandie and Paris.
Before teaching at Whitewater High School, Mr. Roberts was the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at LaGrange College. While at LaGrange College, Mr. Roberts founded the band program. While there he created the college’s first ever marching band and wind ensemble. He also started a jazz band. In addition to his conducting responsibilities, he also taught several music education classes as well as a music appreciation class for non-majors.
Before going to LaGrange College, Mr. Roberts was the Associate Director of Bands at Newnan High School. He conducted the Concert Band, jazz band, two percussion ensembles, and co-conducted the Symphonic Winds. He was the percussion arranger for the marching band and supervised instrumental student teachers. While at Newnan, Roberts received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence on four different occasions. The bands at Newnan played several invitational events including the Honor Bands of Georgia at Columbus State University, the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic at Troy University, The University of Alabama Honor Band Festival, The University of Georgia Janfest, and the Georgia Music Education Association’s State Convention. Prior to Newnan, he served as assistant director of bands at Jonesboro High School, where he conducted the symphonic and concert bands, arranged for the percussion section for the marching band and taught woodwind methods classes. He also worked as band director at Oglethorpe County Middle School, teaching six band classes, arranging percussion and helping with the high school marching band.
Roberts earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Georgia Southern University in 2004. While there he studied percussion with Dr. Matt Fallin and wind band conducting with Dr. Daniel Pittman. He also graduated cum laude from Columbus State University with a master's degree in education with an emphasis in teaching and creativity. He has also completed all course work for the Doctorate Degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Roberts holds professional affiliations with the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), the National Association for Music Education (NAFME), the National Band Association (NBA), and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).
He is married to Carrie Roberts, who is also a music teacher in Fulton County. Together they have three daughters, Isabelle (12), Madeline (9), and Evelyn (6). They reside in Woodstock, Georgia.
